Camille and Rachel are maids at the iconic Paris Ritz hotel in 1940 when the German Army invades their beloved city. As the Nazis tighten their grip on the French people, Rachel's Jewish heritage prompts her to question the safety of her family and consider the possibility of escape. Camille is worried about providing for her family, and as she learns more about the deportation of Paris' Jews, she also becomes increasingly concerned for Rachel's safety. When Camille meets Vivian, a wealthy American masquerading as a Nazi sympathizer while secretly forging papers to help Jewish people, she hopes that Vivian will help her save her friend. The three women work together to protect Rachel and others facing deportation, but not before they are forced to hide Rachel right under the Nazis' noses and make choices that endanger them all. As she has in her previous books, Ryan (The Secret Society of Salzburg, 2022) explores women's experiences during WWII. The Paris Housekeeper will be appealing to historical-fiction enthusiasts as well as those who enjoy Christian writers such as Lisa Wingate.
